Kenya is on Africa’s east coast bordering the Indian Ocean, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. Since the discovery of oil in 2012 Kenya has been able to balance its growing trade deficit and hopes to develop a port and pipeline to export its oil.
The country became independent from Britain in 1962. The service sector (mainly tourism) and agriculture are the largest contributors to Kenya’s GDP.
Nairobi, the capital, is a cosmopolitan city. From spectacular beaches on its Indian Ocean coast to wildlife reserves, such as the Masai Mara National Reserve, there are many natural attractions.
