Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Iran. The Azerbaijani territory of Nakhchivan is bounded by Armenia and Iran, and has a short borderline with Turkey to the northwest.

Azerbaijan is known for its wealth of crude oil and natural gas reserves. It’s also rich in gold, silver, iron, copper, titanium, chromium and other metals. Tourism is an important part of the economy and in recent years Azerbaijan has become a popular destination for religious, spa, and health care tourism.

The national cuisine is based on fish from the Caspian Sea, local meat, and an abundance of seasonal vegetables and greens. Saffron-rice plov is a staple meal in Azerbaijan, and black tea is the national beverage.
